He’s Real

As Christians, we know and believe God is real, but sometimes even though we know it to be true, we forget how real He can really be. We know He is with us everywhere, but at the same time we have a hard time understanding it. We can’t see Him in person, but we have faith to believe He’s there just the same.

Recently, I read something that opened my eyes to seeing Jesus differently. It’s changed my view and I think that it will change yours too!

Diane Moody on devotions and quiet time with God:

“When I began to think about these morning appointments with God, a very specific visualization popped into my head. In my mind, I saw myself coming downstairs and finding Jesus waiting for me there in the family room off to the right at the bottom of the stairs. (Not that my house has a family room at the bottom of the stairs. In fact, to  be honest, it actually looked more like Ward Cleaver’s study in Leave It to Beaver.) But in this particular imaginary room, two loveseats face each other in the middle of the room with a coffee table between them. Jesus is sitting there, His legs stretched out, feet propped up with ankles crossed on the coffee able. He holds a steaming mug of coffee in His hands. When I enter the room, He looks up with a warm, genuine smile that seems to say, ‘Diane! I’m so glad you’re here. I was hoping we’d have some time together this morning.’ I take a seat across from Him and reach for the mug of coffee He offers me…

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t view the cup of coffee He’s prepared me as an expectation on my part that He’s there to serve me. Rather, I see it as symbolic of His expectation that I’ll be joining Him. He’s prepared for our time together.

As I sit across from Him I’m so utterly grateful to find Him here, I’m almost speechless. Then we begin to talk… I hang on His every word, warmed by the depth of His love and compassion for me. I’m filled with such awe and wonder, so bewildered that He has made time for me –for such a wretch like me-when I so rarely make time for Him. And I’m driven to my knees, asking His forgiveness. Eventually He dries my tears, helps me back to my seat, then he asks- of all things- what’s on my heart this morning.” –Confessions of a Prayer Slacker by Diane Moody

When I first read this I had tears in my eyes. I read it again and again. THIS is how real Jesus is. He is in this very room with you right now.

Ever since I read this, I have continued to picture this in my mind. I pictured Jesus sitting next to me in the car, holding my hand as we drove my son to the hospital for his procedure last week. I see Jesus wiping my tears away, sitting and listening as I talk to Him about what’s on my heart or about my bad day. I see Him everywhere and He’s real. There’s no doubt in my mind.

Sometimes because we can’t really see Him in person we feel disconnected from who He is. But that’s not how it’s meant to be. Jesus is real and He’s here with you today. Just open your eyes and you will see Him.
