Life as a New Mom

It’s been 3 months since Adam was born and things are settling down some. Well, maybe not settling down, but we definitely have a schedule down, and settling into life as before only with a baby now! Being a new mom is definitely a lot of hard work, but it is so much fun and very rewarding.

Adam has settled into a great schedule thanks to the book Babywise. I know a lot of people give that book a bad rep, but really it has been a big help. I don’t follow everything exactly, but I use my own judgement and use it more as guidelines than actual rules.

Adam has been eating every three hours on the dot! He kind of fell into the three hour schedule on his own, but it was making sure he took a full feeding every time instead of snacking that kept him on it. It’s really nice because I can go places and know exactly when he will have to eat, and I can plan my day around it too. Recently we have been trying to go every three and half hours before feeding, and he is doing well on that too. Soon it will be every four hours!

He sleeps really well too. The schedule is a feeding, followed by wake time/playtime, and then a nap. Adam loves it and it’s nice to know when he will need to take a nap ahead of time. We also started with a bedtime routine, and let him cry himself to sleep. While he is crying we checked on him every 15 minutes to make sure he was ok. I would go in and rub his head (he loves that) and calm him down and then go our again. And we would keep doing that until he fell asleep. It took a few weeks, and then he would only cry for a few minutes and go to sleep. Now he doesn’t cry at all, and usually goes right to sleep. I love it, and it’s so easy to know that he will go right to bed. As far as getting up in the night. He usually will sleep 5-7 hours and then get up and eat. It’s really has not been too bad, getting up in the night. I am just glad to finally be getting more sleep!

Adam, is just generally a happy baby, and I am so glad God blessed us with him. As far as getting back to the normality of things, it’s been rough since I am still dealing with my health issues and such. Other than that things are great. I even started back into babysitting, which is nice to be making a little extra money. I love being a new mom. My days consist of housework, running errands, playing with the baby, and going on baby play dates with friends. Things with my husband are good. We were able to go on our first post-baby date alone in August, for Jon’s birthday. We are planning another one soon!
