Deployment Idea 5# – “I Miss You” Cards
Note: I may earn money or products from the companies, products, or links mentioned in this post.
At the beginning of our deployment, I decided to make my husband a card based on a photo I saw on Pinterest. I got a piece of white construction paper and folded it in half. Then I got a piece of red construction paper, traced some hearts and cut them out. I glued the hearts to the paper and then wrote, “I Miss You”” on a separate piece of white paper and glued that below the hearts. I also wrote, “I Love You” on one of the hearts.
On the inside of the card I wrote out “31 Reasons Why I Love You.” Then I sent the card in one of his care packages. Now, I am not a very creative person, so I am sure a lot of you could come up with something even better then this card I created, but my husband loved it!
Here is the picture I got the idea from:
Now, if you are anything like me you probably would rather buy a card than make one. Either way, whether you are crafty or a little less than crafty then here are some cards you can make and/or buy (click on each photo to go to website):
This next one technically isn’t a card, but it is something you can either write on or put your card in!
I hope this has given you some great ideas as far as cards. I think your military man would love to receive a card or a love letter, and it is definitely something that could help make his day and show him that you care. There are tons more ideas on pinterest, and tons more cards you can buy on etsy, so shop around (or buy your craft stuff to make them) and send a card today!!
Have you ever sent a special card to someone? Do you have an idea for a card that you would like to share? I would love to hear!
I loved sending cards to Joe while he was deployed!! I don’t think I ever made him any, though. Our PX has a little section full of “I miss you”/romantic cards, so that’s where I ended up getting most of the ones I sent him. With every package I sent, I tucked in a little card and letter. We talked almost every day, but I still felt like he needed something a little special from me. =) And I found out later that he bought cards to send to me but they’d gotten lost/forgotten about during the deployment.
Aww that’s cute! Now I am going to have to go check out our BX and see if they have any cards like that! That is so sad that all of his to you got lost. 🙁 I guess it’s the thought that counts right? 😉
Cute card!!
I loved sending cards to my hubby when he was deployed
Thanks!! 🙂
I love cards too. I actually love hand written and hand made anything. My husband really appreciates having something tangible that reminds him of the things I would like to say, something to hold, to feel, to look at… I love this idea and your cute card!
Yes, I love how you put it into words! Something tangible. Thanks for commenting! 🙂
So Russ is kind of different and doesn’t like me to send him cards or letters when he’s deployed…at first it was frustrating but I kind of got used to it. I still sent a few, but they were not very often which, for me, made them more special!
One thing I loved to do while he was deployed which took a LOT of time but especially in the pre-Ezra or early-Ezra day (aka NOT mobile and therefore mommy has lots of free time), I would go through magazines and newspapers and clip out words, all different fonts and colors and backgrounds! Then I would write a letter with all the clippings!! I would usually have to add a few words in pen or marker but most of the words were the clippings. They always turned out super-cute! I still have a few of them that he brought back I’ll have to take a picture and share!
Is there a reason he doesn’t like them? Does it make it harder for him?
I have heard that idea before, and love it! I so need to do that and maybe even blog about it!!
Well, he’s just not really that sentimental over paper stuff. He will never read a card or letter more than once (I have no idea why), and then he feels awkward because he feels guilty about throwing it away, but he hates to hang onto stuff he isn’t going to use. So what ends up happening is he keeps them all in a stash and then when he’s done with deployment he gives them all back to me! lol
When we first started dating I had a very romantic view of a long-distance relationship – perfume-stained letters in a cute box that he would keep forever and ever and our grandchildren would read, photographs that he would keep in his helmet to look at whenever he was sad or scared. And then he told me that he didn’t really want me to send letters or photos! I had a REALLY hard time accepting it! I still don’t really understand it but I’ve come to realize that he is just not that kind of guy. It still didn’t keep me from sending letters, cards, or photos occasionally, but in many ways it was more for ME than for HIM! It’s just one of his quirks that I have learned to accept.
OOh i could do a guest blog about photo-decorated flat-rate boxes. That’s something I really enjoyed doing because then he wouldn’t feel as guilty about throwing stuff away – i mean, who wants to hold onto a box? lol
Jon is similar. He won’t hang onto it, but I think he enjoys reading them. I understand what you are saying, glad you were able to accept it though. 🙂 You are a good wife. Yeah a guest post about that would be great!!
Hi Kathryn!
I saw one of your comments on the MomComm facebook page, clicked on your profile and noticed you’re in Warner Robins! My husband is a civilian on base and we live in Kathleen. Just wanted to say hi from one Houston County blogger to another! Have a great day!
Hi Jamie!
That is so funny, what a small world! How long have you been in Georgia for? Thanks so much for commenting!! 🙂
I’m a HUGE fan of cards for deployments as well as the long lost art of LETTERS! I try and write daily even if its just a few lines and then to put completed letters in the mail as often as possible. We’re about to begin deployment #2 together and I’m pre-writing letters to send with him when he departs. I’m quite sure he shares my affinity for letter writing since all my letters came back home with him. 🙂
