Shoulda, Coulda, Wouldas

As you all know I am on maternity leave from my blog right now, and so I have set up some awesome guest blog posts for you to read! Today’s scheduled post and guest blogger is: Tonya @ Reflections From a Christian Mommy Writer
She is a military wife, a christian, and a mommy of course! She has some wonderful posts that are encouraging and also military related, I hope you will go check out her blog after reading her post!

Shoulda, Coulda, WouldasThe below quote is one of my favorites. I’ve looked at many different websites to find out who actually said it and saw several persons listed, from Bill Keane, to Eleanor Roosevelt, to Joan Rivers. Despite who actually said it, the quote has a profound message.

Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow is a mystery,
Today is God’s gift,
That’s why we call it the present!

Sometimes, we spend the present, looking back at yesterday.

We shoulda, coulda, woulda graduated from college. We shoulda, coulda, woulda took that job. We shoulda, coulda, woulda spent more time with family. We shoulda, coulda, woulda spent our money more wisely.

We even shoulda, coulda, woulda on other people. My mom shoulda, coulda, woulda. My dad shoulda, coulda, woulda. President Bush shoulda, coulda, woulda. And the list goes on and on…

Life is filled with shouldas, coulda, wouldas. Some people call them regrets. But when do you get past the shouldas, coulda, wouldas?

You can’t go back and change anything that happened in the past, so why cry over spilled milk? It’s already on the floor.

Are you going to mop up the mess and buy some new milk? Or are you going to let it stay on the floor and cause a slip or fall hazard to others?

Now I’m not saying that it is wrong to reflect on the past. We learn a lot from our past mistakes. But we can’t stay there forever. We should only be looking back to the past to help improve our today and give hope for tomorrow.

If you feel like you missed the mark and you find yourself doing a lot of shoulda, coulda, wouldas, choose to start over again today. Don’t let guilt and regret rule your life.

Let’s take our yesterdays and learn from them so that we can enjoy the gift of the present God has given us in today. Let’s move forward.

I just love this post because of how true it is! I cannot tell you how many times I have done this. Thanks for the encouragement! Now, I hope you will go check out Tonya’s blog!

  1. I love this! Thank you! I become obsessed w/ not making a mistake…but I am realizing that while I shouldn't intentionally try to make them, they happen and God can work out anything, even our mistakes!
