7 Things You Need When You have a Sick Child + Giveaway

Note: I may earn money or products from the companies, products, or links mentioned in this post.

The winter cold and flu season is here…again. In our house, we keep passing the colds around and it seems like at least one of us is sick all winter. While there are some things you can do to help keep the germs away, most colds and viruses are inevitable. As a mom, it’s hard to see your child sick a lot. You want to help them and you don’t know how. Here are some of the best items you need to have around the house when you have a sick child.

A Sick Child Needs…

1. A Cool Mist Humidifier.
If you don’t have one already, a humidifier is one of the best things you can have on hand when your child is sick or any other time they might need it. Here in Colorado, it’s great to have because of how dry the climate is here. A humidifier can help relieve congestion and coughing, and even help your child sleep better when they are sick.

Vicks Mini Filter Free Cool Mist Humidifier

The VicksŽ Mini Filter Free Cool Mist Humidifier is a great one to get because it is filter free AND it allows you to add VicksŽ VapoPads which can provide up to 8 hours of soothing Menthol or Sleepytime Rosemary and Lavender scented vapors while the humidifier is running.

One last thing that is perfect for your cool mist humidifier is the Protec Humidifier Antimicrobial Cleaning Fish. It’s an antimicrobial fish that helps keeps your humidifier clean and kills up to 99% of odor-causing bacteria, mold, and algae growth.

My daughter loves seeing the fish swim around when her humidifier is on. It definitely makes it fun for kids and encourages them to use it. Plus it’s super easy for parents – you just drop it in and let it work!

2. A Good Thermometer.
Sometimes with colds and viruses, your sick child may get a fever. It’s hard to find a good thermometer that lasts, but I think I finally found the perfect one to use from now on!

The VicksÂŽ SmartTemp™ Wireless Thermometer is an incredible thermometer to help moms keep tabs on their sick child and keep track of what’s going on. It connects to a free downloadable app using Bluetooth which makes it easy to take and track temperature readings for the entire family. It also provides very accurate readings quickly. I was surprised how fast it took my wiggly 3-year-old’s temperature!

3. A Humidity Monitor.
Did you know that in the winter time, humidity levels can drop as low as 10% drier than the Sahara Desert? That’s crazy! I can only imagine how much worse it is in dryer climates too.

A Humidity Monitor can help tell you what the level of humidity is in your home. VicksÂŽ Healthcheck hygrometer is a great monitor to have around the house to help you learn how to control your home’s environment.

Humidity levels should be around 40-60% in your home. If they are not within those numbers, use your humidifier to help your home get to the proper levels. This can help reduce the survival of flu viruses on surfaces and in the air and increase overall wellness throughout the year.

4. The Right Kind of Tissues.
There’s plenty of tissue brands out there, but how do you know which one to buy? The Puffs PlusÂŽ Lotion tissues are perfect for kids who hate getting their noses wiped because they have that extra softness. Plus, the lotion in them helps to calm that red, raw, and sensitive skin that comes with a cold.

5. VapoRub Ointment.
VicksÂŽ VapoRub™ Topical Ointment has always been my go-to for colds, coughs, and congestion. Why? Because it really works! The ointment works as a topical cough medicine due to the medicated vapors. You can rub a bit on your child’s chest to help them breathe it in a little. You can also put some on the bottom of your child’s feet and then cover with socks so it stays secure. This is one little trick I learned when my kids were sick.

6. A Hot Bowl of Soup.
There’s nothing better than a nice, warm bowl of soup when you’re sick! Love on your child with their favorite kind of soup and make sure you stock up on it during the winter season so you can be sure you always have enough!

7. A Heated Blanket
Sometimes when you have a fever you get the chills. If your child has the chills, let them use a heated blanket on low to help warm them up. Plus, it’s good for everyday use during the cold winter months!

What about YOU? What are some things you use to make your sick child better faster?
