My First Stitch Fix: Finding Clothing That Really Fits!

Note: I may earn money or products from the companies, products, or links mentioned in this post.

I’ve been hearing about Stitch Fix for a long time now. I have been interested to try it since it started, but I never buy clothes online because of not being able to try them on. After working on a client’s blog and seeing all the nice clothes she was getting from Stitch Fix, I was finally convinced I needed to try it at least once! I decided it would be a fun Christmas present to myself and I looked over the site in detail before I went to place an order.

So what is Stitch Fix? Here is what it is in their own words:

For busy women on the go, Stitch Fix is the personal styling service tailored to your taste, budget and lifestyle that helps you look and feel your best every day.”

You are assigned a personal stylist and they will pick out 5 items that they think you will like. You pay $20.00 for them to send your fix and that $20.00 will be used as credit toward your purchases. If you don’t purchase anything, they keep that $20.00 as a styling fee.

Stitch Fix: How it Works

1. Make an Account. It’s free and you don’t get charged for anything. I was able to look around and see how it worked before I committed.

2. Fill out Your Style Profile. This was my favorite part! I was actually really surprised at how detailed it is and how well they try to get to know you and your style. Not only do they ask what sizes you are, they also want to know how you like the clothes to fit your body and your body proportions.

Next, they show you pictures of different types of clothing and outfits and you tell them if you love it, like it, don’t really like it, or hate it. They will ask about your occupation, if you are a mom or not, and if you are pregnant (they have maternity clothes too!!).

After that it’s all about what type of occasions you dress for and how often, the types of clothes you want your fix to focus on, things you would like to flaunt or keep covered (modesty vs how much you want to show), and the price range you would like to spend. Prices range from under $50 all the way to $110 or more.

Last, but not least you will get to decide which types of clothing and accessories you would like to avoid this shipment, the type of fabrics you like, types of styles you want or like, your jewelry style, clothing colors you like, and more!

At the very bottom, I was able to leave a note for my stylist letting her know who I was and what I was looking for. Here is what I put:

Stylist Note

3. Make a Style Pinterest Board. If you already have one – great! You just add the link to that board in your stitch fix profile. If you don’t then definitely do that before you order your first shipment. This helps them really see who you are and what clothes and styles you like.

4. Schedule Your Fix! The best part of Stitch Fix is scheduling that first box! They will give you a calendar and you can pick any date you want. You can check a box to receive a shipment monthly, however I love that you can sign up for them whenever you want. For me, this is more of a treat, so I plan to only schedule them 1-3 times a year – at least for right now.

I also was able to add another last minute note to my stylist before placing the order. I told her for this fix I wanted to have something for my husband’s work Christmas party. It’s awesome that I can do that for special occasions!

Stitch Fix: Get Started

My Stitch Fix Review

Now I’ll be honest, I really wasn’t expecting much from this fix. I had heard that sometimes it takes a few shipments before they really get your style right and I have a very hard time finding clothes that fit me. I am overweight, have a good chunk of wight in my midsection, and have a large rear and thighs.

I was so surprised when I received my box. Everything fit except a blouse that was a little tight in the arm area. Here is what I received:

  • Kate Spade Cut Out Drop Earrings – $32.00
  • Blue High Neck Blouse – $48.00
  • Tab Sleeve Blouse – $48.00
  • Black Knit Cardigan – $48.00
  • Straight Leg Pant – $98.00

I purchased everything except the blue blouse and my $20.00 payment went toward the total purchase. What’s awesome is if you end up purchasing all five items in your box you get 25% off your order on top of the $20.00 credit. Can’t get much better than that!

I usually wouldn’t spend that much on earrings, but they were too good not to pass up and absolutely gorgeous! The tab sleeve blouse was absolutely beautiful and my favorite piece. It’s dressy and I loved the color, fabric, and flower design. The black knit cardigan is great and something I wanted because it’s winter and it goes with everything. I love that it has pockets for a casual look too.

Finally, I tried on the straight leg pant. You can’t tell from the picture, but they are patterned. The fit was perfect and I loved how it made me feel. I am able to wear it with boots or dress it up with some flats or heels. This was one piece that I would never have thought about buying, but once I saw it on myself I was sold!

My favorite part about this entire thing was the fact that I received a personalized note from my stylist on what I received and how to wear it. There were also four different pictures showing 2 different ways to wear each piece – a casual one and a dressed-up one. That right there is what really sold me!

After Your Fix:

1. Decide What to Keep and What to Send Back. In your box you will receive a bag that’s already labeled so you can quickly and easily send the clothes you don’t want back. All I had to do was put it in a local mail drop-off and it was good to go!

2. Pay for Your Items Before the Expiration Date. Once you know which items you’re going to keep, make sure you go into your Stitch Fix account and pay for those items. There is an expiration date on this and if your forget, you will lose your styling fee credit.

3. Fill out the Style Questionnaire. After you pay, they will ask you to fill out a form about your clothes and what you liked and disliked. This is very important because this will help your stylist to understand your style better and to do better next time you order your fix!

Here’s what it looks like:
