One Word for 2014: Relationship

Note: I may earn money or products from the companies, products, or links mentioned in this post.

This year I was a little behind on coming up with my one word for 2014. I realized it was getting to be that time, and I had not a clue as to what I wanted my one word to be. Previous years I had picked the words: “Growth,” “Trust,” and “Prayer,” and this year I wanted something just as good!

relationship

This year I chose the word, “relationship.” I chose this word because I really want to grow my relationships in several different areas. It’s so easy to get complacent in how we treat others and the first step is changing my attitude toward the different relationships in my life.

How I want the word “relationship” to describe my life in 2014:

1. I want to work on my relationship with GOD.
I want my relationship with God to become deeper in 2014. I want to feel closer to God and I want learn to see God the way He wants to be seen – like a loving father who loves his children deeply no matter what. I want my relationship to flourish because I love Him more than anything else.

2. I want to work on my relationship with my HUSBAND.
I want my relationship with my husband to change in the areas of my attitude and respect. I won’t go deep into it because it’s personal, but these are two areas that have needed to change for a long time. I have been pushing it away and God keeps bringing it back because they are areas that are important in our marriage. I hope to put into practice some of the advice found here at the Peaceful Wife blog in parts 1, 2, and 3.

3. I want to work on my relationship with my FAMILY.
When I say family I mean my family of my husband and my kids and both sides of our family (brothers, sisters, and parents). I want my relationship to change in my personal family by bettering our life inside the home. I want to spend more time with the kids, parent better, and parent on the same page as my husband instead of sometimes being at odds on what we want to do.

With our extended family, I want to keep up with them more. As a military family and a special needs family it has been extremely hard for me to keep up with our extended families. I would like to plan more “skype dates” so they can see the kids, call more to let them know how we are doing, and just all around have a better relationship with both sides.

4. I want to work on my relationship with my FRIENDS.
I want my relationship with friends to change in a way that they know that I care. A lot of my friends are online and I do have some local too. I want to develop all those relationships and make sure that I keep up with them and their lives. In the business of life it can be hard to keep up with friendships, I want to make sure that those friends know I am here for them, no matter what!

  1. I love what God has set as your goal this year. 🙂 I can’t get into the one word thing though, to me God and his plans for me, are so beyond what one word can describe. But I’m glad that you are focused on growing relationships, such a beautiful goal in this new year (and one of mine too.) 🙂 Blessings!

    1. Thanks! And true, God’s plan to go far beyond that, but it’s fun having something to strive for during the year. I did the one word thing way before it became a fad, and have enjoyed watching myself grow. Nice to know you have some of the same goals too, thanks so much for commenting! 🙂
