Dear Deployment

Dear Deployment,
I have to say, you are a horrible friend. You disappear for months – sometimes years, if I’m lucky – then hover in the background for a few months before demanding to be the center attention for 6, 9, 12 months at a time.

You make me cry; you make me worry; you make me question everything I’ve ever put faith in; you scare away friends; you make me want to hole up and be a hermit; you depress me.

At the same time, I couldn’t be more grateful for you.

You’ve forced me to learn how to communicate better, giving me and my honey a solid relationship for the future.

You’ve forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and ask for help.

You’ve forced me to learn patience and gratitude and to live in the moment.

You’ve shown me who my true friends are.

You’ve given me confidence to share what I’m learning with others – to reach out and offer help and support.

And you’ve been the push I needed to accomplish goals that had been put on the back burner.

Every time you come around, you’re different. But so am I – I’m stronger and better prepared for whatever surprises you have in store. You may get to me every once in a while – but every time you reduce me to tears, I use it as a way to cleanse my soul. You may win the battle, but I will win the war every single time.

Thank you for being such a horrible friend. But – not gonna lie – I woudn’t be upset if I never saw you again. No offense.

xoxo,
Jessica
