Bearing Each Other’s Burdens

Bearing Each Other's BurdensThe other day I was trying to look up some scripture verses on friendship, and I came across Galatians 6:2 “Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” It made me think a little bit, because when I read that verse I know that sometimes we may want to think of ourselves, and say, “But who will bear MY burdens?” At least I hope that I am not the only one who has ever thought that!

But that is not what the verse is talking about. It says to bear one another’s burdens. There are so many times where we want to think about ourselves and what we are going through, when we really need to be to be there for our friends and those around us. We may get so caught up in ourselves, that we don’t remember that we are not the only ones who have problems, burdens, and fears.

Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loveth at all times…” So how do we love our friends and help bear their burdens, when we have our own things to worry about? Matthew 11:28 says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus wants us to come to Him. We do not always need someone else, because Jesus is here to give us rest, encouragement, and to bear every burden that we have! So if we always go to Him instead of depending on others to helps us, how much more are we going to be able and willing to be there for our friends and those around us?

I don’t know about you, but I love helping people. I want to be there for my friends, and others who may need help or just a caring, listening ear. But sometimes life gets in the way and I want others to be there for me. Next time you feel that way go to Jesus he is the best source of encouragement you can have and he will be there even if your friends cannot be!

  2. I have been focusing on being better about trying to help my friends bare their burdens. It is so easy for me to get all comfortable in my own life. But, that is not what I should do!

  3. For a long time, one of my weaknesses was not letting others help me. Now, I think I've gotten TOO good at that– I worry I rely too much on others, and don't do enough for myself. Your post really struck home with me tonight, and has left me examining whether or not I'm pulling my weight in some friendships.

  4. Awesome post! It's a great reminder that we will ALWAYS have a friend in our Heavenely Father. Sometimes I have a hard time just remembering that He's there; yet, he waits so patiently for me every time. As long as we always remember to confide in Him we will always have the strength to bear each other's burdens.

Regarding your last comment on my post: Haha, I know. I just haven't gotten to take it down yet…or change my background. It's been a crazy week. Thanks for telling me, though!

  7. WE had a great message in chapel about this this week…how people are overrated and God is underrated. We need people, but we don't need people to be God. Yes, Jesus is the best friend there is!
